Lighting Models

This image is from the locker room on the first level. The light from the clerestory windows is coming from the second level skylight. It is not enough light to light the locker room, but it does add some light which is important to growth. Additional artificial lighting will be added.

Lighting Models

This image is of the first level hallway showing daylight coming in from the second level skylight. This application proved to be successful to adding daylight on the first level central interior. It still is not enough, so artificial sensored lighting will be added.

Lighting Models

These images are day lighting and artificial lighting study models. The above image is taken from the entrance to the chapel and the latter from the pulpit, both at 12 pm during June when the sun is at its highest and directly above the altar. Here the sunlight performs a dramatic emphasis on the altar. Some day light comes in from the existing perimeter windows, but the the light from the windows are diffused because of the angle of the sun, there is a south facing wall, and exaggerated wood blinds. The space is not bright enough with artificial lighting, so downlights were added to the pew edges to lighten the circulation paths. Ceiling mounted pendants hung at various lengths are added to give the space an ethereal atmosphere. Floor mounted spotlights were also added to accentuate the architecture of the wood blinds and columns.

Revised Day Light Analysis

The images above are the revised day lighting analysis of the building. First to last images are January 31st, 2011: 9 am, 12 pm, and 4 pm. Then March 31st, 2011: 9 am, 12 pm, and 4 pm. Last, June 30th, 2011: 9 am, 12 pm, and 4 pm, respectively. The adjustments made are glass windows to the entire building, brick and wire 'fins', and a canopy on the roof.

Daylight Analysis - Chapel

These day lighting diagrams are in the chapel and show where the sun comes in the skylight at different times of the year. Sunlight from the south direction comes in at an angle at 9 am and 4 pm which are shown. They hit a wall located on the northeast face. At noon during these months the sun comes in at a 90 degree angle which creates a dramatic affect on the altar. The glass in the skylight is filled with liquid silicone discouraging heat and glare for the performer or speaker.

Revised Reflected Ceiling Plan

The changes made to the reflected ceiling plan are in the chapel where pendants are ceiling mounted. On the floor plan there are down lights mounted on pews.

Revised Building Sections - Transverse and Longitudinal

The only changes thus far to the sections is the addition of the lobby in the transverse section to look at a design for the fiber optic day lighting feature.

Revised Roof and Canopy Plans

The new roof and canopy plans have been adjusted to incorporate the moving of the cooling tower above the mechanical space. The roof plan included the new added skylights which will aid in daylighting the interior core of the building and add dramatic light in the chapel.

Revised Floor Plan- First and Second Level

First and second level floor plans are completed. In the chapel there were changes made to the skylight dimensions and wall features. The wall features added enhance the chapel and reflect the original inspiration for the space.

Revised Site Plan

Changes to the site plan include an additional sidewalk, canopy, and fence for the outside space on the bottom of the plan. It is in the south southwest direction.
